What I Miss Most

Image
In writing this post I'm assuming the title refers to what I miss most about life before the pandemic. There are many things that I've come to miss during self-isolation. The saying "you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone" is proven somewhat true during this time. However the thing I miss most is not having to worry about social distancing. I miss being able to go see my friends and family and I miss regular human contact, even things as simple as a high five or being able to stand right next to each other. The people I miss most are probably my friends from school and my younger cousin. Some people have been saying that social distancing is going to become the new normal, but I don’t think that’s the right view to have. Of course we want to take precautions but we can’t let fear keep us from living. Right now the best thing to do is quarantine and social distance, but when things are safe again we can’t let this become a new normal, otherwise...

COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic is much more serious than I originally thought it would be. At the time of writing this, British Columbia has about 1700 cases. People are taking precautions by self-quarantining and staying six feet apart when going out. Schools and many other services like parks and libraries have closed. With school closed we’ve been doing some online learning, which is also the purpose of this blog. The good thing about school being closed is that I’ve been getting a lot more sleep and eating breakfast. The bad things are the circumstances around the school closing, and the online assignments sometimes being hard to understand. I miss being able to see my friends or people in general. To pass the time I’ve been watching “The Office” and practicing driving. I was lucky I got my L just before the quarantine started because it gives me something to do. I hope this pandemic won’t go on for a lot longer. Canada took precautions early so hopefully we can be cautious but opt...

Painting

It was easy for me to choose a hobby to write about. I've always loved to paint and draw, or do anything related to art. Most little kids had a dream job, and for me it was being an artist. I would paint whenever given the opportunity. My grandma used to keep several sets of watercolour paints at her house for me. Watercolour was the only kind of paint I used as a kid, so when I started using acrylics I was so excited to be able to layer and mix paint. Today, my favourite kind of paint is oil, and my favourite things to paint are landscapes with lots of trees and mountains. Since Grade Eight, I've always chosen art as an elective. In art we do three main projects: a drawing, a painting, and a sculpture. You can imagine my favourite was the painting. I would love to make a career out of my hobby, but most art jobs require computers and graphic design, neither of which I'm experienced with or interested in. I think that art will remain a hobby for me, a way to relax and...
